Brethren,
If you weren’t among the 100 plus brothers and a few of their ladies who were at Zavala Lodge last night, you missed a GREAT evening of fellowship, an outstanding dinner of prime rib, double-baked potatoes, salad, sauteed veggies and homemade chocolate cake, prepared by Zavala’s own Chef Joe Bill D’Angelo [was that the best dinner you've ever had at any lodge, ever, or what?], and of course a great presentation by our Texas Grand Master, M:.W:. Orville O’Neill. When Zavala runs out of aprons and has to borrow some, you know we had a houseful!
Among the dignitaries in attendance – and I apologize, I know I’ll miss some:
M:.W:.G:.M:. – Orville L. O’Neill
Grand Sr. Deacon – Worshipful Roy Elliott
Grand Jr. Steward – Worshipful Wendell Miller
R:.W:. Robert Lee Caldwell – DDGM Dist 14D / PM Zavala Lodge
R:.W:. Charles Talley – DDGM Dist 13
R:.W:. Paul M. Lachnitt – DDGM Dist 8
R:.W:. Clyde Kenneaster – DDGM Dist 17
R:.W:. Mike Biddler – Dist 14B and President Dist 14 MWSA
MWSA Ambassador – George Rutherford
W:.M:. Edwin J. Keist Masonic Lodge – Bro. Edd Land – and several other “Kiest” officers to include Bro. Buddy Collins, S.W. Patrick Travers, Secretary Henry Martin, and PM Mike Biddler
Hella Shrine Temple:
Potentate – Ill. Sir Dr. Bob Sparks
Asst. Rabban – Ill. Roger Carney
Treasurer – Ill. Robert Lee Caldwell
And as they say in the medical laboratory business, others “TNTC” [too numerous to count!] – Past Grand Lodge Officers, Past DDGMs, Past Potentates including Zavala’s own current Master, Lawrence A. Winkle, Zavala PM Edwin F. Kirkpatrick and Zavala PM Roger Nelson.
As you can imagine, Bro. J.D. Joe “Eli” Murphy had his hands full announcing all of the dignitaries – and he handled the task masterfully!
It was also a treat to have two brothers from Finland visit and for the G:.M:. and WM Winkle to each receive fraternal greetings from the G:.M:. of Finland, and a print representing a large leaded glass stucture from their Lodge which depicts the Sts. John surrounded by the emblems you’ll see on the Master’s Carpet – this print represents a piece of leaded [stained] glass which is several feet in height and diameter and sits upon three pillars in the visiting Finnish Bros home lodge. It was designed and built by two Finnish brothers [and Bros]…and is unique in the world to the visiting brother’s lodge.
NEXT WEEK – two Fellowcraft degrees….it sure would be nice to have attendance for those degrees that we had last night!
Fraternally,
Patrick H. Throop, J.W.
