FROM THE EAST: 07/21/2011

Brethren
Last night, July 20th, 2011, we had a fantastic EA degree!  If you were there you enjoyed good food, good fellowship and a good degree – if not, you are not getting out of Masonry everything it has to offer!  I am especially pleased that so many of our newer [and (mostly) younger] Zavalans took significant parts in that degree, many for the first time:  Randall Calhoun – SD, Jimmy Hanks – SW, Jake Brown – Coin, Val Joiner – JD,
Stephen Kadry – Lecture.
Our candidate received an excellent, not a perfect [is there such a thing?] but an excellent degree!  Several of our “young guns” are preparing for the certification exams [Saturday, August 20, 2011 8:00 AM 11:00 AM Duck Creek Lodge No. 1419 Garland]and bully for them!  With young Masons who “step up to the plate” like this, the future of Zavala Lodge is indeed very bright!  We will be having a breakfast and exam-prep session with the District Instructor [Bobby Caldwell] and the Lodge Education Officer [Stephen Kadry] on Saturday, August 6th at 8AM…with your WM flipping pancakes and with the assistance of the Stewards.
Special appreciation to Bro. Randy Blanchard for purchasing Bible verse ribbon markers for each degree and an official “drape” for the charter in the event of the death of a Zavalan; on the few occasions we have had deaths, we’ve had to scramble to find a piece of black cloth to drape the charter.  Thanks for the many things you have provided to Zavala, Randy!  These include our officer’s aprons and jewels cabinet, our WM, SW and JW wooden gavels carved with “Zavala” and the square and compasses and the many other things Randy has done for us; for example hand-washing, starching and ironing all of our aprons!  This is a Brother who loves his Lodge and goes out of his way to support it!
We will be collecting cash donations for school supplies in support of the Texas Grand Lodge “Support Public Schools Week.”  As we did under Junior Past Master, Rick Mick last year, [when we collected $400 plus a donation of school supplies] we will purchase school supplies and present these to one of the elementary schools in our district.  We have a lot of indigent kids in our district who really need this help!  So please bring your spare change and bills to the August Stated Meeting [August 10th] or I will be happy to take your donation anytime!  Give up a Starbuck’s for a day, or some other “vice” you can do without for a day and please donate what you would have spent on that to this worthy cause.  We will also be doing the Masonic Children and Family Services of Texas [MCFS] toothbrush program for 1st-graders in our district…more to follow on that at our August Stated Meeting.  I need a volunteer to chair this MCFS effort, please.
Next Wednesday, July 27th we will host the Master’s Wardens and Secretaries [MWSA] installation.  The following week, August 3rd we expect to have a MM proficiency.  We will also use that night for practice, as we will be having more EA and FC degrees in the near future.  Also, at the August Stated Meeting we will have our second official visit from our District Deputy Grand Master [DDGM], R:.W:. David W. Hefner, who will bring the Grand Master’s message.  We hope to see all of you at all of these events.
Fraternally,
Patrick H. Throop, WM

Zavala re-dedication

Brothers,
There will be a re-dedication of Zavala Lodge 1059 AF & AM  on Febuary 9, 2011.
This will be conducted after our stated meeting business by Zola Blicker with Bob Mauch and Rick Brown, and is open only to Master Masons. If you have not particpated in a re-dedication ceremony this is a real treat of Masonary. Please bring your white leather apron you received when you were raised as this is a very proper occasion to were it. The re-dedication consist of a question and answer forum that will shed light to even the most seasoned Master Masons and has a surprise ending that is sure to give you a little more spring in your step and vim in you vigor. I hope to see you there.
Fraternally,
Rick Mick W:.M:. Zavala 1059

Message From the East 8-24

It’s hard to believe two months have passed since our Installation of officers, time really does fly when your having fun and working hard and we have been doing both!

We have conferred three Master Masons, Matt Wilson, Ashley McDaniel and Amaha Hailey. Two Entered Apprentice degrees and an examination too. Congratulations to all these brothers.

On Wednesday night August 18, 2010, Zavala members rose to the moment of what it means to be a Mason. The need of school supplies for our needy children was addressed, the hat was passed and when it came back we had $400 to donate to Charles A. Gill Elementary School, along with a huge bundle of supplies from Brother Stephan Kadrey! These were presented to Ms Brenda Amour, Principal of Gill Elementary on Monday 8/23/10 the first day of school by Pat Throop, SR Warden, Joe Eli Murphy, Jr Deacon, Dan Crockett and myself, Rick Mick, WM. How proud I was of my lodge, I tried to picture all of our lodge brothers with me, as we gave our gift of charity. It might not have been the largest donation ever made to a school, but you couldn’t tell it from the reaction we received. I want to thank everyone who helped in this.

Also on Wednesday night I counted over 35 in the lodge room when we opened! Brothers you make up what is Zavala, and from where I sit, things are looking good. New masons worked in the E.A. degrees as if old pros. Old pros gave stellar conferrals, Doc Lackey told us a overwhelming story of our great flag of our country, I hope we get to hear that one, again.

Fall is right around the corner and we will be ready for it. First, we have Zavala’s Moto Rally on 10/02/10. We still need a lot of help, please contact Joe Eli Murphy at 972-782-7936 if you would like to do anything. This is a fund raiser for our lodge, so please come on out and help support our cause. Hella Shrine will have their Bucket Brigade on September 17th and 18th please contact Morgan Robinett at 972-938-0060 if you want to help here. Also Shrine Fall ceremonial on November 20. Scottish Rite is coming up for any mason who would like to receive the degrees 4 thru 32. The three day class begins on Saturday October 23, continues on October 30 and concludes on November 13.

In closing I just want to say again how good it feels to be a Zavala Mason and I hope you feel it too!

Yours in Brotherly Love,
Rick Mick

Message From the East – 7/26

From the Worshipful Master

Greetings brethren, as this new masonic year begins let us reflect upon last year. Were our goals accomplished? If so what will be the new list of goals we set forth in this new year?

As good masons I believe we should challenge ourselves to be all we can be to our God our country our neighbor and our selves and try and remember the obligations we took at the alter. If we can do this we can make a difference in our community in the most positive way. Faith, hope and charity is what we are taught, let us practice this in every aspect of our daily lives and be the good masons were charged as entered apprentice’s.
